Great time other then Hurricane Ida by
A Traveler from Lenoir, NC Sailing date: Nov 2009Pros: Food was great, Nice clean ship, and Unique Layout Cons: Lack of activities on the ship, was kind of boring on days at sea if you don't gamble Was my 5th cruise and first time with a balcony. And I have a feeling that might be the only way I cruise from now on. Nice spacious room! The layout of the ship was different and some of the pictures on the around the ship to me were a little grahpic for younger kids. My daughter loved the enchanted forest! Ship QualityWas a harder ship to figure out how to get around on. But was always clean Dining/FoodFood was excellent! Didn't try out the pay dining, but the normal dining was great, along with the buffet! Food was always hot and great! Stateroom QualityNice spacious room, awsome is all I can say Ship Staff QualityStaff on the ship were nice, but to me didn't go out of their way to make it better like I have been accustomed to Entertainment & ActivitiesThere was NOTHING to do on the ship on days at sea especially since it was raining! They had a retractable roof but never used it. And most top deck activities if they had any were cancelled do to the rain Children's ProgramsWe took my daughter once, and she seemed to have a good time. But staff members were kind of unsure of what to do and communication with the parents in my opinion was awkward. 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful.

  Don't waste your money by
Jason P from Nashville, TN Sailing date: Oct 2009Pros: I loved the destinations Cons: The entertainment was horrible and the staff didn't seem to care if they had a job or not. This was our fifth cruise and I regretted every moment of it. If you are a family under the age of 50 with kids this ship is not what you would want to waste your money on. However if you are over 50 you might enjoy the quietness and lack of entertainment. The ship is dead and after 11pm at night it is like a ghost town. We had an issue with one of the staff mebers and after relaying our problem to mangement who apoligized and said the would take care of us, they never did. We had the penthouse suite and have traveled Carnival before but this was our last "Carnival ride" ever. Please dont waste your money here and go with RoyalCarribean if you need a great vacation. I waited a month to write this review to cool down a bit but I still feel the same today. Ship QualityShip was nice Dining/FoodFood was average Stateroom QualityStateroom needed to be made into a room during day and let the beds out at night. They were too lazy so they just left beds down for kids all day . Ship Staff Quality

  Clean and friendly ship by
A Traveler from new york, new york Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: energy of the staff Cons: shows The ship was nice, felt a little smaller than some of the other ships I've been on. Pools were OK, I kept to the adult pool and that was quiet but crowded. The decor was a little wierd but it was definitely well kept and clean. The staff was pleasant. Our cruise director was fantastic!!
Our stateroom (a balcony) was wonderful. Felt large and open. I don't think I can go back to any other size room after being spoiled with the balcony. Ship Quality

Think before you go on this cruise !!! by
Vicki M. from Naples, Fl. Sailing date: Oct 2009Pros: The ports of call were great ! Cons: The ships crew and the food on the ship ! The ship itself is a beautiful and very different in its decor.....however a nice change. However, the maintaining of the ship by the crew was lask to say the least. WE had 4 different incidents of people slipping on wet floors as well as floors in the buffet area that were dirty from spills. The cabins were kept very clean however as were the hallways. The biggest problem for me on this ship was the "smoking". It was not controled at all by the staff even though there were non-smoking sighs posted. Kind of an uncomfortable cruise. Ship QualityThe layout of the ship was not thought out as far as I was concerned. The flooring used in the cafeteria right off the pool area had very slick flooring. Also you HAD to go thru the SMOKY casino to get to the main floor of the theatre....no other way to access it unless you wanted to come down to main floor from the balacony.....steep steps ! Dining/FoodWorst part of the cruise.....dining staff very un-helpful....they don't have their any-time dinning down yet. Food not good....always cold. HOWEVER>>>>the Private Dining Restaurt was WONDERFUL...great wait staff and hostess.....Made up for all the bad food.....but it was just a little pricy compaired to other lines... Stateroom QualityVERY< VERY GOOD....clean, service good, room size and storage was great ! Ship Staff QualityNOTHING SPECIAL.....I got the feeling they did not have respect for their captain and did not like the Cruise director.....she was very poor to say the least ! Entertainment & ActivitiesEntertainment was excellent.....activities was poor....not enough going on in the evenings or later in the nite.....All lounges were smoking lounges and nothing for non-smokers to do......BAD ! 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

  Great Vacation by
Cindy P from Sterling, VA Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: The Ship & The Food Cons: A bit crowded at times The ship was beautiful and I was very impressed with the overall cleanliness. The food was fantastic, the quality and choices. The staff made you feel spoiled throughout the ship. I was a bit concerned because some had told me Carnival had the reputation of a "party ship" but even though things were planned late into the night for guest none of it disturbed my husband or myself who were usually back in out stateroom by 10-10:30pm. A really wonderful experience. Ship Quality

  Had a great time! by
Angela C from Orlando, FL Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: Different ports than the typical caribbean cruise Cons: excursions through carnival are overpriced I typically cruise with Royal Caribbean, so I wasn't sure what to expect from a Carnival cruise. We chose this cruise b/c of the ports. The ship was much nicer than I expected. The food was very good (could be more exotic) and the ship was very clean. It does not have the a lot of physical activities (no ice rink, no 'surfing', no rock wall, and the sports deck was always empty), so may not be a good choice for cruisers who utilize these activities a lot. We normally would, so on sea days, we spent time by the pool instead. Overall, great cruise. Ship QualityI prefer the 'royal promenade' on Royal Caribbean ships vs the layout of the bars/lounges on carnival, but otherwise equal. Very clean. Dining/FoodOnly one specialty option (steakhouse). Dining room was very good, but not very creative. Ship Staff QualityFriendly and helpful staff, despite the fact that their tips were guaranteed (automatically charged to your account). Much better than the NCL cruise we took where the staff was not friendly at all (I suspect b/c they were not working for tips?). Entertainment & ActivitiesFew physical activities (see above). 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

  Way more than expected by
Nick W from Phoenix, AZ Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: Food and Entertainment were great Cons: Not enough time in port Extremely surprised with our cruise. We are return guests and were not overly impressed with our first Carnival cruise. The food and entertainment were mediocre at best.
Not on this ship! The Legend had great food and the entertainment was top notch. We really had a great time. The cruise director was one of the best we've experienced of our four other cruises.
Roatan is a beautiful island but you are only there from 8am-2pm, which just is not enough time. Ship Quality

  Cruisin' in September by
MGM from Blacksburg, VA Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: Relaxing Cons: Smoky and gaudy decor My husband and I cruised on the Carnival Legend 9/20-9/27/09 and had an inside room. Our previous cruises were with Royal Caribbean in balcony rooms. This was a trial run to see how a different cruise line operates and to see if we could tolerate an inside cabin. Overall we had a great time and would cruise with Carnival again. The service was great, the room attendants, wait staff, and recreation staff were very friendly and efficient. Customer service sounded helpful, but didnt really come through for us except for deleting a charge on our final bill that we didnt make. The interior of the Legend is WAY over the top- gaudy is a better word. They could do with 2/3 fewer urns and stenciling on the woodwork. We definitely liked the dcor of RCCL better.
The inside cabin was very nice. The size was quite adequate. We spent so little time in the room so we didnt feel claustrophobic at all. In fact, we think the bathroom was actually larger than what we had in our Royal Caribbean staterooms. The problem we had was someone above, below, or beside us who did a lot of bouncing and scooting late at night. We didnt hear voices, though. We brought a sound machine that kind of masked it, but the noise did wake both of us up one morning at 4am. I finally called Customer Service on Friday evening and they said there was no one above us, only the casino. Someone from Customer Service came to the room, but did not come in to hear where the noise might be coming from. I suppose he went to the casino to see if they were cleaning. We didnt hear from CS again until I received a phone call the next afternoon so see if it got quieter (somewhat). They asked that we call if there was noise on Saturday evening. I waited until 1:30am since some might be packing for debarkation. I waited for 15 minutes and no one from CS came. There were a few more noises and then quiet. That didnt give me much sleep for a 6am wake up call. The other major beef we had was the smoking. Legend had different recreational events during the day. Most of those took place in Satchmos, the Sports Bar or on the Lido deck stage. For non-smokers it was difficult to be in the smoke. In fact, we didnt even go to the karaoke since it was so smoky in there. The sheltered ping pong table was right next to the smoking section and by an electronic door. If the smoke didnt get you, the whooshing of the door opening did. More non-smoking areas would be great. Our excursion for Grand Cayman was cancelled so we took a two hour island tour from a local tour company with several others from Carnival Valor. That was interesting and only $20 a person. Cozumel is definitely the place to do your shopping. We didnt have an excursion here. We looked around the shops at our dock, went back to the ship for lunch, and then walked over to the shops at the other dock. We were able to get tee shirts and trinkets for our grandchildren at a very good price. In Belize we visited the Mayan ruin Altun Ha. We stopped for lunch at the Black Orchid resort and then had a very rainy trip down River Wallace back to the ship and stopped to see some animals and reptiles along the way. We had some time before going back to the ship and thought we would try to find a book store. We didnt feel too safe walking around Belize City and headed back to the ship. We were told that there is 65% unemployment- a lot of loitering and very trashy! Roatan is a beautiful island. We took the West Island tour with stops at a botanical garden, butterfly and bird park, and West End Village. It is too bad that the souvenirs are so expensive. We enjoyed the food at both the buffet and the dining room. There was certainly enough to eat. The challenge was to limit the amount. Our evening meal servers, Wayan and Edgar, did a good job. We have found that the evening meal is usually one of our nicest memories. This cruise was no exception. Ship QualityGaudy decor. Too many smoking areas Dining/FoodGained some weight! Stateroom QualityGood experience for a first time inside cabin Ship Staff Quality

Allan O from Celebration, Florida Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: Interesting itinerary, very quiet and perfect weather Cons: Terrible shows and lack of activities We enjoyed the cruise. It was our 15th one and the second time on this ship.Good ports, never felt crowded and the food was first class. Ship QualityModern and very clean Dining/Food100% Gourmet quality Stateroom QualitySmall but good enough. We had cabin 7295 and the balcony was much larger then I expected. Ship Staff QualityWe were on board with many new staff but they handled it well. Entertainment & ActivitiesTerrible .Same acts and comics from 2 years ago. We were really disappointed as the first time you laugh. The second time you wonder why nothing has changed after 2 years. Children's ProgramsWe thought there was a max of 25 younger children on board. Were we shocked to heat they had over 400.Camp Carnival kept them really busy and out of the way. 0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

  a marvelous cruise by
roger b from florida Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: the food was exceptional, staff was truly caring Cons: not enough shows put on by the young professionals we're used to small ships (675) passengers but were thoroughly surprised with the legend. the 2000+ passengers made it seem like a small ship environment with fine dining, adequate shows and an interested crew. jen our social director was by far the most memorable individual on this cruise.i had a medical emergency the morning we disembarqed and although no one got crew member names several people helped to get my party off the ship expeditiously. for that i am eternally grateful. this was our 15th cruise and i must say one of the most memorable. the shore excursions were adequate but more trips for senior citizens needs to be included. again thanks for an exciting 7 days.very enjoyable!!!
