not so great cruise by
A Traveler from ohio Sailing date: Oct 2009Pros: our waiter was terrific - wished i could have taken him home with us Cons: bathroom flooded everyday, to get to the shows from the dining room. you had to go up two floors and wallk the entire length of the ship and them come down two floors to get to the theater. not so great when my husband , who is handicapped tried to get on all the elevators i would not recommend this ship to anyone - other then meeting great people at the dinning room i would not go on this ship again. food was great. no complaints. we hardly saw our room attendant until the very last night. this was considering our bathroom flooded everyday and he did nothing. we are very disappointed in this ship and royal caribbean. Karen W. from New Jersey Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: Variety of Onboard Activities and Entertainment Cons: The cost of the photos were outrageous For an older ship this one was very well kept and clean. Ship QualityThe layout of the ship could be confusing to new travellers because not all floors take you from one end of the ship to the other. You have to go to the 5th floor and walk across the promanade to get to the other side. But once you learn it, you got it! Dining/FoodThe food was absolutely delicious, they have a enormous variety that is sure to please the pickiest people. The dinner in the Formal dining room was very tasty and for a change of pace we tried Johnny Rockets and was satisfied as well. Stateroom QualityWe had a junior suite which was spacious but the sofabed was extremely firm. Also the tub walls were very high making it difficult to get in shower. I would recommend rails in the shower so you can support yourself as you are climbing over the high wall to get in the shower. Ship Staff QualityAll the staff was very acommodating to our needs. Their aim is to please and make your cruise experience wonderful Entertainment & ActivitiesThere was no doubt that there was plenty to do on the ship, however my night owl days are over and anything that went on after 10pm I could not tell you about. Children's ProgramsWe had 3 kids in the teen club and I would advise parents to make unannounnced visit if your child is in there. I think they should do away with the Truth or Dare game because the dares get pretty risk-kay and your kids may get exposed to some wild stuff. (12-17yrs) Kids at this age are very daring and dares may lead to inappropiate behaviors. 5 out of 5 people found this review helpful.

  horrible experience by
A Traveler from United States Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: not much except the promanade and the irish pub Cons: the food was bad, but mostly the customer service, ship too big The ship is too big to get around and there is too much happening at the same time. Reception lacks true customer service. Business services was rude and nasty. Based on that experience alone I would never book RCCL. The food was at best passible. The beef was the best, the seafood was tough and overcooked. The Windjammer, the casual dining, was much better Ship Qualityvery clean, decor not tacky like Carnival, but the layout was difficult Dining/Food

  A wounderful cruise by
A Traveler from Bayonne,NJ Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: I had a very good time as this was my 17th cruise taken. I had a cabin on the port side with a balcony that was use during my cruise.
I was on deck 7 near to middle of our ship as one was very pleased with it.
I had check out our ship as much as one can by taking photo's all around.
I have enjoyed this ship as again this was my 17th cruise. Ship QualityThere's not much one can said about our ship as it was very good. Dining/FoodI have enjoyed your food all was okay. Stateroom QualityMy stateroom was just the right size for one person by himself. Ship Staff QualityThe ship staff was very good to me during my cruise. Entertainment & ActivitiesAm not into going to see shows on ships but had seen "Hard Days Night" was
very good too. 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

A great and wonderful cruise!" by
Charlie W. from Souderton, Pa. Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: the food, the crew and the adventure! Cons: there wasn't enough hours in the day to take it all in... it was clean, well kept (as it should be), lots a room to walk just about anywhere. areas were marked so i never felt lost. it was very well laid out for passengers. Ship Qualityit was a good size, just right for the short trip we went on, you weren't out of breath walking from bow to stern. Dining/Foodwe always looked forward to our dinner on board, because we knew the food would be great, hot and fast service with a smile. Stateroom Qualitythis time around i got a balcany, it was the best, in fact next time i am getting the same state room (if i can). we always loved how every night going back to the room our room attendant would always make something very creative out of a towel and put it on our bed. Ship Staff Qualityeveryone was great (as always), very friendly, helpful and nice...very nice in deed! we have never had any problems...ever, that one reason why, when we cruise, we always go with you. Entertainment & Activitiesthe wife loves going to shows when we cruise, i just tag along, but i must say, this last cruise the ice show was great. 3 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

Definiely not what we expected!! by
Rosemary C. from Rockland County, NY Sailing date: Aug 2009Pros: The Portofino Restaurant was wonderful! Cons: The food in the buffet was always cold and not appealing. The ship smelled o sewerage every time we docked. It was disgusting especially in the dining room. The cabins in the back of the ship require you to walk a very long distance to get to an elevator or stairs. None in back of ship. Not impressed with many factors of Explorer of the Seas. Will not consider cruising again with this cruise line. Ship QualityMuch too big a ship with no easy access to elevators or stairs when your cabin is in the back of ship. It felt like a mile walk to get to the elevators and stairs. The cabin was clean and our Room Steward was excellent. Dining/FoodThe only dinner that we enjoyed was when we ate in Portofino Restaurant. We ate there twice and paid each time. The food and service there was excellent. The food in the Dining Room was not up to par with other cruise lines we have take. The food in the buffet was always cold and not very appealing. Stateroom Quality
Ship Staff Quality
Entertainment & ActivitiesThe show where The Happenings performed was excellent. The balance of shows werre average. Children's ProgramsOur daughter was in the 15-17group. This group was not well supervised and thero were many complaints about the teens roaming the ship and acting inappropriate. My daughter did not enjoy the Teel Club at all. In contrast to other cruises she participated in, this was the worst club she ever participated in.

  A great cruise! by
A Traveler from Long Island, NY Sailing date: Aug 2009Pros: The Promenade section Cons: Limited seating for ice shows. I felt it wasn't monitored well, the amount of seats and tickets handed out for show times. I think it is absolutely beautiful! The lights and decor of the centrums and elevators is gorgeous. I love the amount of hot tubs on the ship (solarium, outdoor pool area, and the gym). I also enjoyed the amounts of bars available to enjoy cocktails! Ship Quality

King's Wharf, BermudaWhat a beautiful island! However, I was disappointed about the lack of shopping and the prices of souveniers. I guess I am so used to the great shopping in the Caribbean islands.

Over the hill and sliding fast! by
mike L from New York City Sailing date: Jun 2009Pros: crew was great Cons: ship needs major overhaul we were disappointed with Explorer. ship is showing its age and looks and feels tired and threadbare. Lots of plumbing problems
Royal Caribbean has also eliminated most of the nice little touches that make cruising special. Eliminating chocolates on the pillow and little bottles of lotion in the bathroom and the recap of the daily news really seems petty.
The menu and selections have all been reduced and the overall quality of the food has declined dramatically
The crew is still very good to excellent and that made the trip enjoyable
Ship Qualitybig problem with the plumbing. Toilet in our stateroom was constantly clogged and several times there was no water in the public rest rooms. Ship needs a major over haul and felt dingy and tired Dining/Foodmenu and selection in all venues was pretty weak and was noticeably short or previous sailing Stateroom Qualityfurniture stained, carpet was loose, plumbing clogged all the time Ship Staff QualityCrew was great and always accomodating Entertainment & Activities
