Set Sail For Canada/New England's Color-Soaked Coastlines & Historic Ports Of Call Like Boston & Halifax
Colonial Charm, Sophisticated French Influences, Quaint Seaside Villages, Stately Mansions & MoreEastern Canada's exceptionally French feel and New England's colonial history help make a Canada/New England cruise an excellent choice between May and August. But it's the autumn months - more specifically, late September through late October, or peak foliage season, when the region's landscapes are awash in brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows - that remain the biggest draw.
Nearly all of the top-brand cruise lines - Holland America, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and others - will send at least one ship to the region during the summer and fall; several of the leading luxury/small-ship fleets, including Crystal, Oceania, and Regent Seven Seas will, too. But the Canada/New England season is comparatively short, and sailings always fill up fast, so you'll want to book your Canada/New England cruise well in advance of departure in order to secure your space. Reserve early and you'll also pay the lowest possible price for your Canada/New England cruise.
CruisesOnly offers the most comprehensive selection of cruises to Canada/New England. Grab yourself a great deal on a seven-night sailing or save a bundle on a longer voyage (select "extended" itineraries will often include an overnight stay in Québec City). There are also big bargains to be had if you're open to a one-way sailing (e.g. Montreal to Boston, New York City to Québec), and these itineraries will typically visit a greater number of ports of call.
Our experts can assist with all of your planning including tips on what to pack (Canadian and New England mornings and evenings can be chilly, even in May/June) and which excursions to take (e.g. a guided tour of Acadia National Park, or a whale-watching outing in the Bay of Fundy).
Cruising To Canada/New England: Popular Ports Of CallYour Canada/New England cruise will almost certainly include stops in historic Boston, beautiful Bar Harbor, scenic Halifax, and Saint John, North America's oldest and easternmost city. Select small-ship lines are also able to access several ports of call that are off-limits to cruising's mega-ships including desirable island destinations like Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cap-aux-Meules.
Bar Harbor, MaineOne of Canada/New England's busiest ports of call. Its downtown streets - lined with specialty shops, art galleries, cozy cafés, and great restaurants (you absolutely cannot come and go without at least one or two bites of fresh-caught lobster) - positively bustle with activity throughout much of the season. But it's best-known as the gateway to Maine's most-visited attraction, the aforementioned (and amazing) Acadia National Park, 49,000-plus acres of sandy beaches, evergreen forests, and glacier-carved mountains.
Boston, MassachusettsThe so-called "Hub of the Universe", one of the oldest cities in the U.S., and a major destination for history buffs. You'll find all of the key Revolutionary-era landmarks and locations here, whether along the city's famous Freedom Trail or in nearby towns like Lexington and Concord; it's also home to a number of terrific museums and some truly beautiful parks including Boston Common (the nation's oldest urban park) and the Public Garden. Additional attractions include Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Fenway Park, the legendary home of the Boston Red Sox.
Halifax, Nova ScotiaNova Scotia's capital city is notable for its rich maritime heritage and its relaxed, friendly vibe, but it's also a major commercial center, and a thriving arts and culinary scene has taken root within its downtown and its harbor (it's also home to Canada's greatest concentration of pubs per capita). Citadel Hill, and its star-shaped fortress, continues to watch over the city below and it's a must-see; the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Canada's oldest and largest maritime museum, and nearby Peggy's Cove, home to the iconic Peggy's Point Lighthouse, are also well worth your time.
Québec City, QuébecCome ashore in Québec and you could be forgiven for thinking that your ship had accidentally made its way to France: that's because almost everything you'll encounter here owes a heavy debt to "La République", from the province's official language to its food and its architecture and beyond. The Historic District of Old Québec - a UNESCO World Heritage Site, replete with fortified ramparts, bastions, and a towering citadel - is simply not to be missed. The luxurious Château Frontenac and the breathtaking Montmorency Falls are also highlights.
Saint John, New BrunswickLocated along the Bay of Fundy (a major attraction in its own right, with its amplified tides, its rare breeds of whale, and more), Saint John is Canada's oldest incorporated city. It's a winning blend of British, French, and Irish influences and it's easily explored on foot (many of Saint John's major attractions are linked via "The Inside Connection", the city's expansive and fully enclosed pedway). Popular points of interest include Carleton Martello Tower and the fine shops and restaurants along Market Square.
