Mexico Cruises – Baja Sailings, Riviera Voyages & Western Caribbean Itineraries – Are An Unbeatable Value
Visit All Of Mexico's Most Popular Ports Of Call Including Cabo San Lucas, Cozumel & Puerto Vallarta
Mexico, like the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, remains one of cruising's classic destinations, in part because it offers cruisers so many choices. There are over 4,500 miles of Mexican coastline along the Pacific, and another 1,700-plus that front the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. From beginning to end, cruisers can expect to encounter several of the world's most beautiful and famous beaches (including an especially gorgeous concentration in Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and other sun-splashed locations along the Yucatán Peninsula) and an amazing array of important historical and cultural sites (e.g. Cabo San Lucas' El Arco, Chichen Itza's El Castillo, and Puerto Vallarta's El Malecón).
CruisesOnly offers the largest selection of cruises to Mexico at the lowest prices. Our experts can also help you decide which kind of Mexico cruise works best for you (e.g. Baja, Mexican Riviera, etc.) and when best to go (Mexico's weather, generally speaking, is excellent year-round, but you'll find many of the best deals available during the "shoulder" seasons of September and June).
There are also an uncommonly large number of short cruises to Mexico - primarily along the West Coast, departing from California homeports - and they are an excellent and inexpensive way for first-timers to sample some of what the country has to offer. Most Western Caribbean cruises, as well as select Panama Canal sailings, will also visit at least one Mexican destination.
Cruising To Mexico: Popular Ports Of Call
East coast ... ? West coast ... ? All that Mexican shoreline means plenty of ports of call. Depending on the itinerary you select, your ship may call upon one or two of Mexico's lesser-known gems (e.g. laid-back La Paz and the fisherman's paradise of Loreto), but here are the country's perennial favorites.Acapulco
This ritzy resort town, a.k.a. "the Pearl of the Pacific", first came into prominence once Hollywood A-listers like Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, and John Wayne began vacationing here. Top attractions include the legendary cliff divers of La Quebrada and El Fuerte de San Diego, Acapulco's massive, star-shaped fort.Cabo San Lucas
A major tourist destination, Cabo San Lucas is best-known for its gorgeous white-sand beaches (including popular Playa del Amor, or "Lover's Beach"), its world-class marlin fishing, and its raucous party scene. It's also an ideal match for the active cruiser, with watersports options galore (e.g. jet-skiing, parasailing, snorkeling, and a whole lot more). The spectacular stone cliffs of Land's End, including the aforementioned El Arco, are a must-see; golf aficionados will also find many of Mexico's best courses here.
Costa Maya
Located along the Caribbean Sea just north of Belize, Costa Maya was literally created with cruisers in mind: the terminal, and its surrounding "village," and much of its immediate infrastructure, were all constructed in an effort to lure cruise ships (the port first opened for business back in 2001; it's since been rebuilt to address the extensive damage resulting from Hurricane Dean). The offerings within the village are fun but pre-fab (e.g. beach clubs, brand-name bars/restaurants, lots of shopping); cruisers interested in a more authentic experience will need to head further inland, where compelling attractions like Chacchoben and Bacalar Lagoon (a.k.a. "the Lake of Seven Colors") await.
Cozumel
Widely regarded as one of the world's premier scuba-diving spots, Cozumel is also a major gateway to many of Mexico's most important Mayan ruins, and no cruise to Mexico would be complete without a tour of the lost cities and ancient temples of Chichen Itza, San Gervaiso, and Tulum. And if you're cruising to Mexico with the kids, you'll definitely want to consider an outing to Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park (dolphin encounters, underwater statues, a crocodile farm, and more). As with nearby Cancun, Cozumel remains extremely popular with spring breakers, so you'll want to plan accordingly if that's not your thing.
Puerto Vallarta
Picturesque Puerto Vallarta blends the best of the old and the new. Its cobblestone streets, beautifully preserved colonial architecture, and dazzling beaches - all set against a dramatic mountain backdrop - remain signature features, but the town is also home to a very vibrant and cosmopolitan cultural scene (e.g. quirky boutiques, lots of art galleries, innovative restaurants; it also enjoys a well-deserved reputation as Mexico's most LGBTQ-friendly destination).Ecotourism and adventure excursions are another huge draw: cruisers are just a short distance from the Sierra Madre Occidental Range and its tropical jungle forests, and a wide array of exciting options - canopy tours, explorations via dune buggy or ATV, horseback riding, and more - are available.
